January is "Crime Stoppers Month" internationally, where nearly 1500 programs worldwide endeavor to increase awareness of this community-based program. Peel Crime Stoppers is celebrating the kick-off to International Crime Stoppers Month with a News Conference. The focus of our launch this year will be the issue of illegal guns within our community and how Crime Stoppers provides a safe and anonymous avenue for citizens to call in with information about illegal guns.

We are pleased to have Inspector Norm English of the Street Crime Gang Unit speaking on this important topic. We also have special guest speakers, Audette Shephard, who is the founder of UMOVE (United Mothers Opposing Violence Everywhere) and Dave Forster, president of the Ontario Association of Crime Stoppers

There will be a display of seized guns for the media to view.
